New Experimental Branch for Next patch (Steam- PC and Mac)

Hey Everyone!

We have some more bug fixes coming soon! You can get a look at them early in the experimental branch!

OPTING INTO THE EXPERIMENTAL BRANCH:

Remember, this is risky! Please do this only if you’re excited to help us test some changes.

One of the most important things you can help us test are the validity and stability of existing save files with these updates. It’s important that you back up your existing save before opting into the experimental branch, in the event problems occur!

To back up your Steam save files:

  1. Go to a directory something like: %appdata%\…\LocalLow\Airship Syndicate\BattleChasersNightwar<Your 64 bit steam ID here>\saves
  2. Copy the save files there into a new, separate directory outside of the BattleChasersNightwar directory.

CRITICAL NOTE:

Every time you launch the game, Steam will copy the save files from the cloud into your saves directory. (When the game shuts down, it does the reverse.) Because of this, if you’re trying to copy your save files back into the saves directory, start Battle Chasers: Nightwar up first. Then while you are at the START screen, copy the save files into place. If copy saves over before launching, they’ll get stomped by the Steam cloud saves.

Switching to the Experimental Branch:

  1. Right click the game in your Steam library and choose Properties > Betas
  2. In the field next to “Check Code”, enter the following pasword: ireadthenotes
  3. This should unlock the Experimental branch
  4. In the drop down, select the Experimental branch to begin downloading it
  5. To switch back to the normal game, select “None – Opt Out”.

Your help testing these changes is hugely appreciated. Following are patch notes detailing some of the changes:

Patch 23161 Notes (PC/Mac)

Gameplay

  • The elusive Belevros has made more of a permanent home in Deadwatch, and should now always be able to be found when sought.
  • The Endless Arena should now work as expected, with climbing enemy difficulty, boss waves and climbing multipliers!
  • Less excitingly, Battle-length buffs do not last indefinitely in Endless Mode anymore - every Phase counts as a battle for Buff purposes.
  • Liches now tire of spawning skeleton minions a little more realistically.
  • The Unstable Bomber will no longer traps players on the Victory Screen, thus allowing it to keep its place as the most rewarding screen in the game and not the most frustrating.
  • Garrison’s upgraded Warblade now only consumes up to 60 Overcharge.
  • Legendary dungeons are now available in your first playthrough of a Dungeon (though we ask to verify you’re REALLY SURE you want to do that to yourself)
  • Fix for people who got stuck on the messenger at the beginning of NG+

Localization

  • Various bugs fixed in Localization, including persistent HTML issues in the French language.
  • Extra localization fixes in other languages.

Crashes

  • While ending the game after the Credits seemed ironically appropriate, additional care was put into place to prevent crashing there.
  • Our Video Player has been updated on PC and Mac in the hopes this resolves issues for many players unable to play the game due to video issues.
  • Polished switching out characters after Party Select in order to prevent crashes related to memory.
  • Added potential fix for a hang in Path of Fangs when returning to the Lycelot Traitor.
  • Potential fix for people that were getting stuck on Mac.

UI

  • There wasn’t enough detail about what you were crafting in the Crafting section of the Compendium because there was a part of the view missing! More stat detail can now be toggled to see how crafted equipment might affect heroes!
  • Font sizes in the combat screen have been increased so that you may recline luxuriously at a greater distance from your screen.
  • The bottom row of abilities in combat should no longer be partially cut off
  • Some people were fruitlessly clicking on the Toggle Skin button in Party Select to turn on their new skins. We have provided fruits for their efforts! This button should now work as expected.

Other

  • Backup saves on PC and Mac are automatically seamlessly loaded in place of broken/corrupted save files. Additionally, if an issue occurs with saving your progress, the game will let you know to restart the game so you do not keep playing and lose progress.
  • The game now runs properly on environments in the Turkish language.

Cmon guys, you can do better. I post the same type bug 6 days ago for RU localization. The bug is still in game. Just checked.

Very sorry; bugs still slip through the cracks in every game, and there’s so much to keep track of on the forums and in what’s been ticketed, what’s been fixed and what hasn’t.
I’ve made sure that fix makes its way into our next experimental branch :slight_smile: Thank you for bringing it up!

Hey all! We just updated experimental branch with a couple more fixes:

  • fix for people that got stuck on the messenger in NG+
    -russian localization fixes
    -fix for some people who were getting stuck on Mac

Hi, I tried the experimental as outlined. In reference to my PC issue: [PC][Steam] Game not starting after intro, there is still no change and the game is still hung while trying to load.

Hey, @CNelson, could you please PM me the save file you are attempting to load?

And actually, I’m wondering if maybe your game is failing to load. Have you tried checking the integrity of the game files by right clicking the game in Steam and selecting Properties > Local Files > Verify Integrity of Game Files?

I’ve noticed in the room with Belevros in Deadwatch that there is a breakable wall with a treasure chest in it. It never shows up on the map. Both times that I’ve opened the chest there is nothing inside. Everything else is working quite well. (Update: i opened a third time and finally got some items but there weren’t that many.) I’ve also noticed that there are several sarcophagus that only reward 2 or 7 coins. Not sure if this is scaled correctly.

Hello, I haven’t seen any HTML tag in French for now. I have updated this topic [BUG][V.22753] French Localization.
However, there is still inconsistency in the translation that is annoying: Money is translated either with Argent or Pognon (pirate password), Pauper’s Slop is translated either with Bouillon du Pauvre or Bouillie des pénitents for the quest “the Well”, etc… I think it’s easy to miss some quests in french at present.

Thanks I’m now able to play this game on my PC again as I was able to copy my saves from the Mac version.

  • had to select “Play Battle Chasers: Nightwar in Safe Mode (DX 9)” as the first option still crashes for my PC
  • Also I can’t view the cinematics as its just a blank black screen with my cursor showing but I can skip them. I already finished the game on Mac so this isn’t a problem for me.
